Female+ Voices From Estonia
(Helen Unt)

Movies
Winter in the Rainforest
Shot in real nature, in the tropical rainforests of Mexico and Peru, this film captures the eternal dance of life and death as experienced by magical creatures of porcelain – animals, birds, insects and flowers – fragile, yet resilient at the same time. Time passes here in a strange way, moving at an unexpected pace. The unique combination of natural light, time-lapse technique and subtle stop-motion animation creates a unique poetic reality that brings us awareness of the magic and materiality of our own living in this world. Mise en scène Anu-Laura Tuttelberg Durée 9' pays Estonie année 2019
About Love
A man and a woman have been married for years. They are bogged down in the stifling routine of the everyday. Something must change. The painful emptiness between and within the two people needs to be filled with love, otherwise it will be impossible to live on. Do they realise that their life together is not coincidence, but God’s own plan? Mise en scène Girlin Bassovskaja Durée 13' pays Estonie année 2020
Miisufy
Miisu, a virtual pet cat, grows weary of her owner and begins to rebel. The Tamagotchi-inspired “Miisufy” invites us to view the world from the perspective of virtual animals. Mise en scène Liisi Grünberg Durée 10' pays Estonie année 2023
The Turnip
Based on a Slavic fairy tale, this film tells the story from the point of view of the peasants. Unlike the fairy tale, however, the film takes an underground perspective, recounting what really happened while the peasants were busy growing vegetables – and the surprise they faced at harvest time. It is a story about ownership, collaboration and betrayal. Mise en scène Silja Saarepuu, Piret Sigus Durée 7' pays Estonie année 2022
The Shadow of Dawn
Dawn is gathering medicinal herbs in the forest when the woodcutter who is in love with her appears. He offers her his hand and his heart, but Dawn makes fun of him. Shortly after, Dawn is attacked by the servants of a mysterious beast, who kidnap the girl. Dawn manages to cut loose her shadow, whose quest it is to find help and solve the mystery. Mise en scène Olga Stalev Durée 15' langue Estonian pays Estonie année 2024
Mother Earth
“Maaimä” is a song for Mother Earth. It tells of the difficult relationship between humans and nature, comparing humans to bugs on the skin of the Earth. The song addresses topical issues such as the climate crisis, overpopulation and consumption. It was written by poet Leila Holts in one of the oldest languages in the world, Võro, thus also referring to indigenous cultures, whose peoples serve as guardians of nature in today’s world, warning us of the danger of our destructive ways. Mise en scène Lucija Mrzljak Durée 4' pays Estonie, Croatie année 2024
The Little Other
Two babies are about to be born. One of them is bound to be a regular child. The other is destined to be a trickster. But how can you tell them apart, since the birth of identical twins is in itself a trick of nature! Nobody knows what will happen next. It is said that when somewhere a trickster is born, the hazard lights on all the cars light up by themselves. Mise en scène Andres Tenusaar Durée 12' pays Estonie année 2024
