Museum Langmatt: Sustainability Tour
Sustainability is evident in many different ways at Langmatt Museum. As part of its comprehensive renovation, the historic building was made more energy-efficient; a photovoltaic system on the new pavilion generates renewable energy. In the park, various stations forming part of the ‘Was lebt im Park?’ project (‘What’s living in the park?’), developed in collaboration with the City of Baden’s Urban Ecology Department, invite visitors to discover biodiversity.
Sustainability also plays an important role in the museum’s day-to-day operations: instead of mineral water, treated tap water is served in the Veranda Café; environmentally friendly reusable or recyclable solutions are used at events and preference is given to regional products in the gift shop. The museum also uses resource-efficient materials and equipment, including recycled paper, rechargeable batteries and energy-efficient LED lighting.
Using a wide range of examples, the tour shows how the renovation of listed buildings, park maintenance and museum operations can all be made more sustainable.
