International Competition 2025

In a world that feels increasingly divided and on fire every day, it’s no wonder that so many films in this year’s international competition beg for connection and awareness.

Besides more light-hearted works (“S the Wolf”, “My Good Boy”, “The Golden Donkey”, “Dollhouse Elephant”), there are many films that tackle socially relevant topics such as migration, self-image, intimacy and trauma, often challenging stereotypes surrounding gender expectations and the representation of different communities. This year’s edition is marked by outstanding auto-fictional narratives and strong experimental works.

We are thrilled to announce that we’ve added an extra programme block to accommodate the number of films we want to present and to outline the extraordinary work of animators around the world. Out of the 3,000 submissions we received, our selection committee has chosen 30 for the International Competition, representing around 20 different countries, including India, Kyrgyzstan, Jordan and Egypt.

Seven of them are world premieres (“It Mostly Feels Familiar”, “Flè dè me”, “Noon Lover”, “Long Live Livia”, “Me and You and Smoke”, “Acid City”, “BEST”), and additionally 21 shorts will be shown in Switzerland for the first time.

On an anecdotal level, we noticed a striking number of butterflies, babies, rainfalls and plastic bags among the submissions – you can find out for yourself how many made it into the competition.
