Gluri Suter Huus: Lost Spaces
In addition to the exhibitions “Fading Utopia” by Jan Sebesta and “Gärten – Urbane Natur” by Urban Sketchers, Fantoche is presenting a selection of four short films in the gallery at Gluri Suter Huus. Alternating between earnestness and subtle irony, the films address ecology, identity, trauma and perception as permanently changing states.
The result is an intense stream of images shaped by controlled chaos, in which bodies deform, houses disintegrate and memories drift like particles through space and time. In dialogue with the critical visual worlds of Jan Sebesta (*1979) and the urban and natural spaces captured in drawings by Urban Sketchers, these cinematic works offer a broader perspective on perception and the environment.

The film centres on a dilapidated house, a metaphor for inner and outer decay: structures are collapsing, memories and belongings fading and falling apart, until one person is left alone among the ruins. Using a symbolic, at times abstract, visual language to illustrate mental states and emotional processes, the film explores questions of identity, perception and human existence. Mound
Grotesque figures made of clay, fabric and feathers disintegrate, merge and constantly reform – without ever becoming solid. Set to Scott Walker’s “It’s Raining Today”, an atmosphere of melancholy, beauty and controlled chaos unfolds. An experimental work of animation with a strong emphasis on materiality in which the boundaries between figure, body and matter are blurred.
