Feature Films
Long Films for a short time
Don't underestimate
the programme of feature films at Fantoche 2011. Whether
in 2D or 3D, whether a
large-scale production or an exotic treasure, Fantoche shows the latest feature
films for young and old, aficionados and newcomers alike. We're also serving up
a real mixed bag with this year's key theme, “Animated Documentary”. And since the Fantoche public wants to know that little bit more, we will once again be inviting a few film-makers to come along and give us
an insight into how they produce their feature films in our “Making-of” slots.

Joann Sfar, Antoine Delesvaux
FR 2010 | F/d
Th, Su: 2D and Sa: 3D
The film adaptation of Joann Sfar’s comic series of the same name narrates the story of Rabbi Sfar’s talking cat in a typically idiosyncratic visual style. The master and his friends experience some wonderful adventures in the company of probably the savviest velveteen-pawed cat in the whole of Algiers. This is an awesome adventure for viewers, too!
Antoine Charreyron
FR/BE/LU 2011 | E/d
We, Sa: 3D and Fr: 2D
NYC, Central Park. Five youths are victims of a brutal mugging. But they are not like other teenagers. They are prodigies, boy geniuses with supremely high intelligence and superhuman willpower. Antoine Charreyron’s adaptation of “La Nuit des enfants rois” by Bernard Lenteric is a real action-thriller – spectacularly staged and mercilessly thrilling.
Hiromasa Yonebayashi
JP 2010 | J/d/f
The unmistakeable style of the Ghibli studio enchants us with its latest production “Arrietty – The Wonderful World of the Borrowers”. Arrietty, an incredibly tiny “borrower”, lives in a hideaway at the parental home of a young boy suffering from a chronic illness. The pair strike up an unusual friendship which goes beyond all the conventional norms.

DK 2011 | Dän/e/d
Jonathan spends his holidays with his grandfather in the middle of a gigantic forest. An amazing adventure, if only his little sister were not with him. Suddenly, the girl vanishes without a trace, lost in the never-ending woodland. “The Great Bear” is a gripping fairytale for children and adults. Packed with thrilling adventures and visually stunning.

Jean-Loup Felicioli, Alain Gagnol
FR 2010 | F/d
In their first joint feature film, Jean-Loup Felicioli and Alain Gagnol narrate the story of Dino, the handsome tomcat. He loves to spend the day with little Zoé, and when nights falls, he joins his pal Nico on raids across the rooftops of Paris. A fabulous detective story for adults and children!

GB 2010 | E
Mister Christie, a seemingly honest husband, family man and dog owner, is implicated in a scandal when he is caught having sex with a French sailor. Phil Mulloy takes us into a bizarre world with his punchy, provocative and charismatic reduction of visual elements. He spins a crude melodrama that is captivating, funny and at the same time irritating.
Mathieu Weschler
FR 2010 | E/f
This is a first: an animated feature film developed entirely from a computer game. “The Trashmaster” is the story of a New York dustman who not only clears the refuse, but also takes care of disposing of criminals. This action packed film noir is not just for gamers, and certainly not for anyone with nervous disposition.

Mati Kütt
EE 2010 | Est/D/e
Can you reach the moon in a single breath? Yes, you can – with enough dedication and the right training. This voyage is not just about a postman making his deliveries around the moon. It is also a philosophical excursion through time and history, into the realm of reflective thought and the capacity of the imagination.
