The first Swiss computer games funded with special grants!

The “Call for Projects: Swiss Games” was launched at Fantoche in autumn 2010, in collaboration with the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Federal Office of Culture and the SUISA Foundation for Music. The aim was to promote innovative Swiss computer games with artistic merit and encourage collaboration among the creative from various disciplines. At the same time, the current situation in Switzerland would be assessed.

A jury of international experts from the project partners was convened to judge the entries and award grants amounting to a total of CHF 300,000. In order to guarantee the topicality of the games, only unreleased projects could be submitted, and grants of a maximum of CHF 50,000 per project could be awarded. In addition, the SUISA Foundation for Music will award a prize of CHF 15,000 to the best original sound composition.

The jury selected seven works from the 36 game projects submitted. Particularly popular were mobile platforms and games for PC and Mac systems in a variety of genres and styles. Guillaume de Fondaumière, the jury president, detected an international standard among the submissions and praised the quality of the game design study programmes in Switzerland

The exhibition Call for Projects: “Swiss Game Selection” presents the seven games awarded with grants. The following jury will award the prize for the best sound composition at the beginning of the festival: Diego Baldenweg (Film music composer, Switzerland), Boris Blank (Musician “Yellow”, Switzerland) and Daniel Jakob (Musician “Filewile”, Switzerland).
