Up close and personal in the creative processes

The “Making-of” section at Fantoche offers the rare opportunity of taking a closer look at the wealth of creative processes in animation filmmaking. Every film has its unique production history, and every technique its individual quirks: animators explain their work, the various phases of development, the most important steps of their procedure and the materials they use. The Fantoche public get to experience more and learn animators' tricks of the trade.

We are looking forward to welcoming Félicie Haymoz and Elie Chapuis at Fantoche. The creative pair are both Swiss and worked as the character designer and animator for “Fantastic Mr. Fox”. We discover more about character development and how the characters are made by the famous puppet makers McKinnon & Saunders. In addition the experts talk about what it is like to work on set with director Wes Anderson and offer us a chance to look behind the camera.

An action film in which the Michelin man, Haribo and the clown from McDonalds are the main characters. An ingenious idea, brilliantly implemented with over 2,500 logos in a short film lasting 18 minutes. The film is “Logorama,” the winner of the Oscar for the best animated short film in 2009. The film took four years to make. The producers Hervé de Crécy and François Alaux talk about the production of the film, the Oscar and their new plans.

In an open discussion with Hideto Nakata we discover more about the production conditions for “Elemi”. The wonderful stop motion film about a love affair between a “telephone mast” and the man who repairs her was made by the Japanese producer alone. At Fantoche he describes the crazy development process of his first animated feature film and explains what motivated him to attempt such an unusual accomplishment.
